ITTIA announces db.linux

October 20, 2003 — Bellevue, WA — While the battlefields of the IT world are strewn with the corpses of hundreds of also-rans, their innovations live on. db.linux, a fast, lightweight and powerful database engine is rising from the dead, and is poised to change the database landscape.

db.linux started life as db_vista™* , a program developed by Seattle-based Raima™* Corporation. Raima* set its product apart by integrating both network- and relational database models into a very small package. This database found its way into thousands of applications over the years.

In 1999, near the crest of the tech boom, Raima* sold its technology to Redwood Shores, CA based Centura Corp. Centura envisioned an open-source database solution for open source platforms. They teamed with now-defunct the openavenue.com to provide an open-source development environment. Centura poured millions into development of their database, which they re-branded as db.linux.

When the bubble burst, Centura sold off its assets, and Openavenue collapsed. However, just like the early railroad companies built the infrastructure that later grew the economy, the blood and sweat of Centura’s boom-time programmers lives on in their product, db.linux.

Bellevue, WA based ITTIA is working to build a new life for db.linux. Calling it’s effort “Club ITTIA,” the company hopes to resume development where Centura left off, while providing the Linux market with a database fit for use in high-performance and embedded applications.

"db.linux is a very powerful piece of software," said Bill Adams, ITTIA's director of engineering. “ITTIA’s experience with Raima-derived databases along with the stability and expandability provided by open-source development models will meet a need for a fast and efficient database for both desktop and embedded Linux development.”

Club ITTIA is not your standard open development hosting service. Structured like a private club, db.linux developers will team with other members to provide services, support, and consulting services.
