International telecommunications pioneer joins Club ITTIA

November 24, 2003 — Bellevue, WA — Marconi is a world leader in radio-frequency systems. Recently, their fixed wireless systems (Skyband) division was in need of an embedded database.

Marconi Skyband wireless solutions are being deployed around the world to an ever-growing base of satisfied customers; Fixed wireless solutions are often preferable to wire-based solutions because of ease of installation and lower maintenance costs.

As a company with a tradition of innovation, the Marconi engineers looked for the best solution. They decided on Club ITTIA and db.*. They found that it could assure data autonomy, both logically (through isolation of the API from the data) and physically; that the software could assure data security by protecting against corruption and loss, and that it could allow data access by multiple threads and processes. Above all, because it is open source, they could extend db.* to meet their specific needs - no matter what happens, Marconi can keep the software up to date without relying on a vendor.

Because there are no development or runtime fees associated with db.*, Marconi is also free to deploy db.* on as many devices as they wish without worrying about license fees.

“We are thrilled to offer our database expertise to an innovator like Marconi,” said Sasan Montaseri, president of ITTIA. “As the embedded database field grows, we look forward to helping other companies discover the power and flexibility of open source and db.linux.”
