Glaxo Smith Kline selects data access solution from ITTIA

March 4, 2003 — Bellevue, WA — Glaxo Smith Kline, one of the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical and health care companies, selected ITTIA's technology for improving cost-savings and financial decision support tools. ITTIA ODBC was deployed to access data used to analyze the returns on instrumentation investments.

Significant investments have been made to automate laboratory operations at Glaxo Smith Kline. The investments in technology are central to maintaining a constant flow of innovation. Just as important is the need of management to analyze the financial returns associated with such investments to insure efforts to not drain finances.

An embedded database stores vital instrument usage data and was not accessible. With millions of dollars invested in automated lab equipment at facilities around the world analyzing the cost of ownership and having data available to make business decisions based on actual data is essential.

ITTIA ODBC is the only technology available to offer full Open DataBase Connectivity (ODBC) support to the complex database embedded in Glaxo Smith Kline's automated instrumentation. The ODBC industry standard data access protocol is a trusted means to share information between applications. In addition, the ability to track usage can be a valuable component of an organization's 21 CFR Part 11 compliance program.

ITTIA ODBC enabled data from the instruments to be exported to Microsoft™ Access for developing custom usage reports. Reporting back on his experience with ITTIA ODBC, a member of the Research staff at Glaxo Smith Kline stated, "I liked the ease of installation and the speed at which I read the data. It was all very easy and meets our needs." Other popular reporting and analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, Crystal Reports and many others are capable of integrating the data.

"Organizations that invest heavily in technology infrastructure naturally prefer to extend well-functioning systems rather than replace them," ITTIA President and CEO Sasan Montaseri said. "We are committed to providing technology to help achieve this goal. It is a pleasure to work with Glaxo Smith Kline, and we would be delighted to talk to other users interested in cost savings and extending the value of their current systems."
