Moody's Risk Management Services Saves Time and Money with ITTIA's RDMi ODBC Driver Software

August 20, 2001 — Bellevue, WA — Moody's Risk Management Services, a trusted provider of credit risk analysis and management tools and services, has adopted ITTIA's RDMi™ ODBC interface to add efficiency in operations involving RDM. According to a Moody's IT executive, the ITTIA technology proved easy to install, and can be used transparently by analysts to access key financial data.

Moody's has licensed third-party software for data about specific banks, brokerages and other financial institutions. This software stores the information in RDM, an embedded database. Although a front-end application is provided with the software, RDM's proprietary format made it impossible to access the data directly and thereby design customized interfaces or to seamlessly transfer data to other applications.

This situation frustrated some analysts, according to Thom King, director of data management at Moody's. "We just had to do without" certain data access methods that would have streamlined their activities.

Unlocking Hidden Value

But after obtaining ITTIA's RDMi™ ODBC driver, Moody's was able to unlock information in the application, opening the engine permanently to a wide variety of ODBC-supporting querying tools and third-party applications. The RDMi™ interface takes advantage of performance-enhancing RDM features such as the "d_" core-level API and combined network/b-tree database models, delivering data with the efficiency associated with such databases.

King noted that RDMi™ "worked perfectly" and installed easily. "It snaps into native ODBC capabilities that are in Windows, so there's no coding to do," King said. Now, the analysts can freely download information into preferred applications, saving time-and costs-by designing the most efficient analysis methods.

King added that when called upon to answer technical questions, ITTIA's response was "excellent, both in promptness and in quality of information."

"Moody's Risk Management Services provides a perfect example of the value that can be obtained from previously inaccessible information, using ITTIA's highly efficient RDMi ODBC interface," said Sasan Montaseri, ITTIA President. "This also exemplifies ITTIA's commitment to providing greater efficiency and flexibility. We listen to our customers to determine embedded market needs, and implement solutions accordingly."

About RDMi™

The RDMi™ ODBC driver provides an industry-standard programming interface for accessing the full power of RDM. RDMi™ enables popular database tools as Crystal Reports and Cognos to extend the capabilities of RDM. In addition, with RDMi™, a RDM database becomes an available data source for ADO and OLE DB through Microsoft's ODBC provider for OLE DB.

For application end-users, RDMi™ opens RDM to the world of database interoperability. For companies with RDM-based applications, RDMi™ provides an opportunity to add value when customers demand open access to the application data: there is no need to switch databases or implement a replication scheme when use of RDMi™ provides a more time- and cost-effective solution. RDMiTM's ability to open the database offers increased benefits from an RDM-based application, and thus is an aid to securing new customers and increasing revenue.

RDMi™ is available in read-only, read-write, single-user and multi-user implementations. Because RDMi™ is a comprehensive implementation of the ODBC 3.0 specification, it supports the complete range of complex queries: expressions, aggregation, filters, and ordering. RDMi™ will exploit network model sets for optimal join processing, and make use of keys for more efficient filters and ordering.
